Is this work the absolute best you can possibly produce? If not, polish it before submitting it.
Did you have a professional editor look at it before hand?
Do you belong to writers groups in your area and attend their writing workshops on a regular basis?
Do you have a critique group of serious writers giving you feedback on each chapter you write?
Are you familiar with the newest trends of the book industry?
Do you read professional publications in your field?
Are you familiar with the industry standards?
Do you attend local and national writers workshops?
Do you make appointments with agents and editors to pitch your book at local and national conferences?
Do you listen to the feedback you receive from professionals in the business?
These are only a few of the points you need to answer before you decide whether or not your manuscript is ready for publication. Otherwise, you might be wasting an editor's time and setting yourself up for hurtful rejections. It takes time to make a good writer and the process cannot be rushed. But do not despair, out of relentless work and perseverance, great authors are born.
